We love photographing weddings. That pretty much goes without saying if you have ever worked with us. But having the opportunity to photograph weddings in new places, makes us even more in love with our work. This Hawaii wedding began when we met our bride Sarah, while we were in Oahu. She was visiting her friend and shopping with her mother for wedding dresses. So a year later we are on the Big Island for her wedding! We found that we were fascinated by all the different landscapes on just one island! From the airport we saw fields of old lava flows and very few trees, but as we drove to South Point, the foliage became lush and what you think of as Hawaiian was all around us. Just so beautiful! We found a wonderful Air B&B to stay in, that was just a few miles from the Big Island Bed & Breakfast, where Jeff & Sarah were having their wedding weekend events! Can you imagine having the option to rent out a whole Air B&B for your family and friends for the weekend? Well that is just what they got to do with this fabulous space! The Macadam farm was so unique! It gave their guest the option to camp, as well as stay at the house. There was pool, beautiful tropical birds, fresh macadam nuts and tons of other cool features!
Now Sarah and Jeff are a unique and fun couple! First of all, they live in Hawaii haha, but they are also professional scuba divers! Jeff is even a published underwater photographer. They both wanted their wedding to be without waste and utilize sustainable products. Both are very conscious of our environment and especially the waters of our world. For the ceremony they had the “aisle” lined with scuba diving tanks. They also had blankets laid out for those who wanted a more casual seat for the ceremony. Even their sweet pup was part of the processional. With flower petals strewn in a circle, Jeff and Sarah were married out on the back lawn of the B &B with Macadam trees as the background. The wedding/reception was somewhat casual, but the ceremony words were well thought-out and heartfelt! Such clever words and statements were part of the ceremony and it made everyone listen carefully!
After the ceremony we walked around the property for some causal pictures of Sarah and Jeff. Because they live in Hawaii, it wasn’t important to them to have the images look like Hawaii! Of course John and I were thinking beaches, palm trees etc, but they were happy to stay close and take in all the beauty right around! Funny, just as we came back to the house and were finished with the “formal” pictures, Jeff went right into the pool!! It didn’t take long for Sarah to join him! I do love that Sarah had another, shorter dress to change into for the reception, so she needed to change anyway!
The reception dinner was a mix of island specialties and tons and tons of amazing Sushi! I didn’t even know I liked Sushi this much till trying it there! Aside from the yummy food there was wonderful speeches, dancing in the yard, and fire dancing from her bridesmaid Louise! But one of the sweet highlights of the evening was the beautiful Hula dance by Sarah to Jeff! She had been taking lessons for quite some time and designed a dance just for him. It was so beautiful and well done and exciting to watch!
Loving these Hawaiian weddings that John and I have had the pleasure to photograph over the last few years and we hope to be coming back soon! We can’t thank Jeff and Sarah enough for having us as part of their wedding weekend celebration! What an amazing couple and wedding!
