A wedding day filled with personal details and cultural uniqueness…I couldn’t imagine anything more perfect for this lovely couple! Jessica and Zvonimir actually met on-line, while Jessica was studying Croatian and Zvon was studying English. It’s really such an adorable story, but lets jump ahead 3 years to their wedding day! Zvon’s mother, Zdenka, came for the celebration and she brought so much love with her! Both Jessica and Zvon’s mothers spent the late morning with Jessica getting prepared for the day. It was such an easy going morning and filled with happiness and college friends that came by as they arrived in town. Jessica shared a toast with her old friends, it was from a tradition in Croatia, called Rakija. A liquor is made when a child is born and saved until their wedding day! It is usually made of fruit, this one was from plums. This bottle was 30 years old!
At their ceremony, guest were greeted on the steps of St. Christopher’s Church by a 5 piece Croatian band, Zadnja Stanica. Everyone loved it and it was a perfect start to their wedding!! They also received a twig of Rosemary to wear. In the middle ages it was thought that Rosemary attributed power to break up evil spirits that threaten people at crucial moments of their lives. Therefore, a bride wore a wreath of Rosemary and to keep the tradition going the wedding party.. branches of Rosemary.
The reception, at the always fabulous Clifton Barn, was full of details that just made my heart sign! From the sweet, petite cake and macaroons, by Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes, to the amazing flowers by Life In Bloom Florist, every detail showed Jessica’s personality. After an intimate cocktail hour, the Croatian band gave a quick dancing lesson to all the guest and then the toast and delicious food was served.
We really loved this wedding. From the couple’s amazing mothers, to the couple themselves and the unique wedding details, I would love to do it all again!
